A. MINEO
Robert A. Mineo's years of experience as a practicing aerospace
engineer gives the firm a unique technical basis for its practice in aviation
and products liability litigation.
A graduate in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University at
Raleigh, North Carolina, Mr. Mineo worked as a civilian aeronautical engineer
for the Department of the Navy from 1970 through 1978. His work included
responsibility for the C-131 and C-130 weapons systems in the areas of structure
analysis and systems engineering, crash investigation, and the computer analysis
of failed aircraft systems and components.
In 1973 Mr. Mineo
became the Senior Systems Engineer for the AV-8 Harrier weapons systems during
the time of its initial development and deployment with the United States Marine
Corps.
Mr. Mineo is a
graduate of The Campbell University School of Law where he was a member of the
editorial staff of the Campbell Law Review. He also wrote for the Campbell Law
Observer in the areas of aviation law, admiralty and products liability. During
his second year in law school, Mr. Mineo attended the University of Notre Dame
Law School's London Center for Legal Studies where he concentrated his studies
in the area of European Common Market Law.
As a practicing
aviation attorney since 1982, Mr. Mineo has acted as lead counsel in many
aviation cases involving major air-carriers, general aviation, helicopter, and
military crashes. Some of the more representative air-carrier cases in which he
has been involved are the Pan American 103 crash in Lockerbie Scotland, the
United 232 crash in Sioux City, Iowa, the crash of USAir Flight 5050 in New York
City and the crash of American Eagle flight 3378 in Raleigh, North Carolina. In
addition to these air-carrier accidents, Mr. Mineo has been the lead counsel in
numerous general aviation cases resulting from the crash of Piper, Beech,
Cessna, and Commander aircraft and the in-flight failures of Continental and
Lycoming aircraft engines and other aviation related components. His practice is
primarily limited to aviation and products liability related areas with
particular emphasis in cases requiring technical evaluation and analysis. His
ability to communicate with engineering experts in the areas of structures,
aerodynamics, and flight dynamics have proved extremely beneficial during the
crash investigation, discovery, and trial portions of a highly technical case.
Mr. Mineo is a
member of the Bar of North Carolina and the District of Columbia and is admitted
to practice before the United States Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the
Eastern District of North Carolina, Middle District of North Carolina and
Western District of North Carolina, District of Maryland, Eastern District of
Texas, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Fourth Circuit Court
of Appeals. In addition, Mr. Mineo is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and U.S. Court of Claims. He is
a member of the American and North Carolina Bar Association. In addition, Mr.
Mineo is a past member of the Rules Committee for the National Transportation
Safety Board Bar Association and is a member of the American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics and the International Society of Air Safety
Investigators [Chief Aircraft Investigator for an excess of 30 major aircraft
crashes.]
In addition to
his private practice, Mr. Mineo was the Adjunct Professor of Aviation Law at the
Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law for many years. Mr. Mineo has been married
for twenty-one years to his wife Athena and has a son Rob, age 17 and a daughter
Gabrielle, age 19. Mr. Mineo is a member of the Hayes Barton Baptist Church and
the Raleigh Concert Band. |
